PlayStation Plus subscription stacking has been reported to be disabled

PlayStation is officially set to integrate PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now into a new multi-level version of PlayStation Plus starting in early June for North America. Part of this process will involve moving existing subscriptions to the tiered service, so people have been scrambling to try and get the most out of their money. Unfortunately, a PlayStation Plus subscription time stack like this appears to be at least temporarily disrupted.

While subscribers of existing PlayStation Plus will be converted to the basic level of PlayStation Plus Essential, PlayStation itself states that anyone who subscribes to PlayStation Now and PlayStation Plus will be Converted to PlayStation Plus Premium – With a single payment date based on a subscription that is set to expire – With prepaid stack time. As such, stacking PlayStation Plus and getting, say, a small current subscription to PlayStation Now would make a big difference to the overall payment as PlayStation Plus Premium is $119.99 per year or $17.99 per month.

Trying to buy PlayStation Plus extra time digitally if you have an active subscription was historically possible, but on both browsers and consoles, an error now appears that says: “Cannot buy. Can’t add to cart. You’ve purchased.” This item is already there.”

Reports of the same issues spread across social media and Forum ResetEra. According to Busch Squarea user received the following from PlayStation Support when asked about the issue: “I’ve verified your coupon and account and can conclude that as of now there is a temporarily inactive functionality for PlayStation Plus/Now subscriptions that does not allow for either membership to be stacked on already active memberships.”

It appears that PlayStation has not yet officially commented publicly on the matter. ComicBook.com has contacted PlayStation for more information on this topic.

As noted above, the new tiered version of PlayStation Plus with PlayStation Plus Essential, PlayStation Plus Extra and PlayStation Plus Premium is set to go on sale globally beginning in June with North America specifically set to offer the new tiered service on June 13. It’s not clear if the “pausedly disabled” PlayStation Plus stack will be resolved before then. You can check out all of our previous coverage of PlayStation in general here.
